Dave Riley

Dave was the bassist for Big Black. In contrast to the bass in most rock bands, his playing barely stayed in the background, which helped deliver the unique sound of Big Black that came about when Steve Albini joined forces with Dave and Santiago Durango. He suffered from a strroke a couple years after Big Black disbanded. He passed away from cancer in 2019.

Legend has it (and Wikipedia confirms) he wrote a book called Blurry and Disconnected: Tales of Sink-or-Swim Nihilism, but my searches for it have so far turned up nothing.
