Bug (Live at the 930 Club)
About this item
Bug is one of my favorite Dinosaur Jr albums, followed by You’re Living All Over Me. I mean who doesn’t love when Dinosaur or even J doing a solo show breaks into Freak Scene?
Originally, I had hopes of getting the band to sign an old copy of Bug, but I set my sights on the live version since I almost always prefer the sound and energy from a live recording than a polished studio recording. And it just seems like a far more impressive feat to play the songs live than to assemble the perfect studio version, composed of limitless undos, samples, splices and outtakes. Plus, again, the raw energy is not only different but better.
How I got it
I had a bit of trepidation about getting J for the full set. A month or two later, I saw J when he was out and about and tried to strike up conversation – incredibly difficult for one introvert to start a conversation with another introvert, I might add. But somewhere in there, i asked if i saw him again in the future, if he’d mind signing something for me, to which he said something along the lines of “sure”.
The next time he played at the Drake in Amherst, I was able to find him after the show to sign for me.
