Charlie Nakajima

My thoughts

The Wikipedia entry for Deep Wound notes their 2004 suprise gig in Northampton MA. Sonic Youth headlined, while both J Mascis and Sebadoh were the openers. That is one of the most amazing lineups I can imagine. You have to understand that that show was over 20 years ago now, so my memory is rather foggie.

I was hanging out with Charlie a lot back then. He mentioned that Deep Wound was reuniting at that show in couple of day. Naturally I tagged along. Well really, you couldn’t have kept me away from that show, period. Sonic Youth, J Mascis and Sebadoh. Who could ask for anything more?!

I say up the balcony with Charlie and took in the show from a far. At some point, he got up, went downstairs, and appeared on stage shortly afterward. Then, they ripped out one song and… that was it. Show was over.

I was amazed, and a few other people were too, as they all came up to talk with Charlie after the show, but we left and Charlie was non-challant as ever.

Theres a few snapshots from that show scattered around the internet. But alas, that was the time before iPhones. Back when pictures, let alone video, were strictly forbidden at nearly all concerts.
