Biography

After walking away from the New York Dolls in the midst of a disatrous tour that had brought them down to Florida, guitarist Johnny Thunders and drummer Jerry Nolan returned to New York City and recruited Richard Hell and started the Heartbreakers.

Before long, they peeled Walter Lure away from the Demons to be second guitar and share vocal duties. This lineup would only last a short time before Thunders and Nolan decided that Richard Hell wasn’t a good fit and brought on Billy Rath to play bass.

By all accounts, the Heartbreakers put on some amazing performances, but all those same accounts quickly point out that the band put on some truly awful attempts as well.

They would only last long enough to release a single studio album (LAMF) before disintegrating, only to return year after year for reunion shows (or Rent Parties, as Walter Lure coined those shows)
